Rapsodo is high level technology that provides incredible details to provide the pitcher incredible details on all aspects of their pitches. Today, college recruiters are using this information to help determine players they want to recruit. In many cases, Colleges will require players to send this data along with a video so they can review the metrics. At 503 Baseball/Softball Academy we have a few of our instructors certified to manage and process this information for players. Here are a few aspects Rapsodo will measure:

  1. Spin Rate: The rate at which the ball spins during flight, measured in rotations per minute (RPM). There is a stronger correlation between spin rate and swinging-strike percentage than between velocity and swinging-strike percentage
  2. True Spin Rate: The spin directly impacting the movement of a pitch. Also known as “useful spin,” it is perpendicular to the direction the ball is traveling, deflecting the otherwise straight
horizontal and vertical path of the ball.
  3. Spin Efficiency: The percentage of spin directly impacting the movement of a pitch. Spin efficiency is the ratio of true spin to total spin.
  4. Spin Direction: The tilt or angle of the baseball from the release point, measured in degrees, created by the Magnus effect. The Magnus effect is created by the air pressure surrounding the spinning baseball on its path to home plate.
  5. Pitch Break: How much a ball has moved when it crosses the strike zone compared to what its position would have been without spin. Break is measured horizontally and vertically in inches.
  6. Release Height and Angle: The height of the ball at the point of release and the vertical angle at which the ball was released out of the hand.
  7. Velocity: How fast a pitch is traveling during flight, measured in miles per hour (MPH).

This technology is most effective for more advanced players. High School players can see their data, make adjustments on the following:

Wrist angle, Grip, Arm Slot, Finger pressure points: This will be to determine what has great impact on velocity and movement. For example a player wanted to improve his breaking ball, or unsure whether to throw a slider or curveball. That our certified coaches are going to be able to help translate the metrics given, as well as help the student improve upon this given pitch by altering grips, wrist angles, etc. and basically if a player wants to add a pitch or improve a pitch on your arsenal, this is the option to go to for immediate feedback.

When an athlete finishes the bullpen, they get access to their bullpen metrics from the Rapsodo app it will make them download when a player creates their account. The instructor will then go into the cloud later that day, and email a PDF version. This is what colleges will be very interested in. If a player wants a video as well, the video will take a few days longer than the PDF. Within 72 hours they will have their video of the bullpen overlayed with the data, as well as the PDF. All in email form.

We have 3 opportunities for players to take advantage of this technology:

Option 1 - Individual Data Summary

Customer: High School or maybe 8th grade pitcher that is looking to submit rapsodo videos for recruiting efforts. Players will be provided a PDF file with all the data. The instructor will go over the data in detail with the player and send.

Time: 60 minute Bullpen (Warm Up and a minimum of 30-40 pitches)

Cost: $90 Add a Video Cost $40 = Total Cost: $130

Option 2 - Team Discount or Small Groups
Players: 3-6 players
Time: 45 minutes per player. Training is done individually.

Cost: is $70 per player, a savings of $20.

Option 3 - Normal Training with Players today
If a player wants to measure their metrics to get immediate feedback on grips, wrist angles, arm slots they can do so while with their instructor. If a player wants to use Rapsodo the instructor must add $50 to the training hour. For example, if a player who trains with Gehrig ($80/hour) or Matt ($70/hour) and they want to use Rapsodo to acquire the data we will add $50 to that hourly cost. So $80/$70 per hour plus $50 = $130/$120.
